Spring Concert Series: Trio Timia -The Fischoff Soirée
The Fischoff is the nation’s largest chamber music competition, bringing together young musicians from across the country and around the world.
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Ruthmere Fischoff Soirée brings this celebration of great music to Elkhart! Our performers will be the Trio Timia, 2025 Fischoff Competition Bronze Medalist, based out of Schulich School of Music of McGill University, Montreal, Quebec.
Formed in Montréal at McGill University, Trio Timia brings together pianist Itamar Prag, violinist June Lee, and cellist François Lamontagne. Prize winners at the 2025 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the trio is also one of the eight piano trios selected to compete at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in May 2026.
Trio Timia shaped its artistic voice as an ensemble-in-residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, where they premiered a commissioned work by composer Yejin Kwon, and participated in Musique à Flaine with the support of Jeunesse Musicale du Canada. Performing throughout North America and Europe, they have worked with mentors including Violaine Melançon, André Laplante, Jinjoo Cho, Guillaume Sutre, Yovan Markovitch, and Max Geissler, and studied with Steven Isserlis at the Lunenburg Music Academy.
Trio Timia strives to honor the composer's original intentions while allowing the freedom to be emotionally vulnerable, sharing their interpretations openly with the audience. Each member comes from a different part of the world and speaks a different language - Hebrew, Korean, and French. Yet they are united by a shared musical language that transcends words. The name Timia comes from the Greek word for "honesty", a value the trio strives to embody in their music-making. In Korean, the word playfully echoes a phrase meaning "we are a team".
